Freshman Exploratory
What is Exploratory?
The Exploratory program allows freshmen to experience a collection of career-technical programs at Blackstone Valley Tech for one week at a time. Each exploratory week is designed to expose students to the type of work and career opportunities in the specific career-technical area they are exploring. At the end of the exploratory program, students are asked to choose their permanent shop placement for the remainder of their time at BVT.
What is Multimedia’s Exploratory like?
Students in Multimedia Communications exploratory are exposed to the broadness of our field with a focus on design, communication, and creating industry-standard work.
Over five days, students build a brand design for a product, which consists of:

A logo design

A box design for their product
-
Professional product photography using DSLR cameras

An interactive website prototype
AND
-
A 30-second social media video
Students follow the Stanford Design Thinking Model to design their brand and market their product to a specific target audience.
Example Project: Product Photography
On day 3 of exploratory, students have the opportunity to learn professional DSLR photography techniques to capture images of their product and box design. Students can choose an appropriate backdrop, props, and can adjust framing, plane of focus, and lighting to collect professional-looking images to use on a website prototype design and in a promotional video that they will edit later in the week
Students leave Multimedia exploratory with the box design that includes their custom logo and they also have access to their interactive website prototype and promotional video that uses their product photography.
